Healing Benefits of Ear Candling

In Part 1 of this article published in the July 13-Aug. 9, 2012 issue of the Connection Magazine, I provided a basic understanding of ear candling, its history and benefits. In this article I would like to provide a larger picture of how ear candling fits into creating a powerful health regime.
The most important premise in understanding how we heal is to see the body as an overall machine with every single part, organ, system and fluid working in harmony for optimal function. When the body is functioning optimally there is yet another layer of influence: our emotions, beliefs and patterns of reactions to stress and to every single situation in life. The next layer is to see ourselves as interconnected to energy fields and the spiritual basis of existence both internally and externally We call this the Whole Health Approach acknowledging body, mind and spirit when working with clients.
Advertising, the medical model and the pharmaceutical industry has conditioned us on some level to seek the “magic bullet” that will take away our pain, discomfort, and anxiety we experience in our bodies. The true magic bullet is in embracing the understanding of how we heal with the Whole Health Approach.
So let’s bring this back down to ear candling. Ear Candling doesn’t just extract ear wax from the ear – its primary purpose is to gently stimulate the pores within the ear (which are connected to nerves and points associated with organs, bones, muscles and skin). Every part of our body, including the production of ear wax, strives to work in balance – if you simply extract the wax through vacuum or bulb syringe methods, you are not addressing the problem that is creating over-production of wax in the first place. The over production of wax is simply the bodies’ response to an imbalance in the body showing up in the ear (or at least this is where it has captured your attention). For example, the feeling as though the ear is blocked could actually be a result of inflammation in the body showing up in the ear.
Lack of energy, allergies, issues with your sinuses, pain and tension in the head, neck and shoulders, feeling like the ears are blocked are all indicators of the body attempting to seek harmony in an imbalanced state.
